Fabulous invention…

March 31, 2007

…Penicillin. I’ve had a nasty throat infection – the doctor’s description. I started taking a course of penicillin (I’m not allergic thankfully) on Thursday morning and I’m starting to feel human again. I haven’t read or done any knitting all week. I did get enthusiastic about an orange top in Simply Knitting on Thursday so that’s a good sign.

Doctor Who season 3 (of the new ones) starts in 45 minutes so I’m very excited. I can’t wait to see how the new companion compares to Billie Piper. And it’s cool to post about DW because Neil Gaiman does!

Oh and I’m extremely annoyed that a Flanimals book one the Nibbie for Best Children’s Book. So much so that I swore at the tv quite violently. Any one of the other nominees would have been a million times more worthy. Hmmph.

Tote bag

March 26, 2007

Just a quick post as I’ve not done much on the creative side this week. I’ve spent most of my time having a Jane Austen week. I’ve read Pride & Prejudice and finally managed to read it all the way through. It must be the 4th or 5th attempt by now! I’ve also watched several film/tv adaptions this week. I’m now trying to decide which book to read next. I might go for Mansfield Park but I’m still undecided.
I did have a sewing flurry on Wednesday night and I turned a teatowl that I’d bought because I liked the fabric, into a tote bag. It’s very simple and not lined but it does the job, I tested it yesterday and it held a carton of milk, 6 yoghurts, some crumpets and a jar of honey very well! I will post pictures at the weekend.

Teatowel Bag

I didn’t get the job by the way, so I’m still looking….

Happy St Patrick’s Day!

My sock is growing very slowly as I’ve spent most of this week either preparing for a job interview or nervously waiting to be told if I’ve got the job or not. I hope I do get it, partly because it’s round the corner from a yarn shop!

But today I did buy two sets of circular needles in sizes 2.5mm and 3.5mm so I can attempt knitting on two circulars as my next challenge. I’ll let you know how I get on or if I just get all tangled up!

Stripes galore!

March 10, 2007

I spent most of last Sunday knitting my first sock, it’s the widdershins pattern in Knitty Summer 2006 and uses a “magic” cast on that is genius! Bit fiddly at first but as long as you don’t cast on too tight it’s fine. I’m using Opal Uni in shades 1414 and 1413 on 3.25mm dpns. I wanted to knit long socks so thought toe up would be better so I can judge how long they can be according to the yarn I have left.

Sock paused

By the end of Monday evening I had knitted the heel and to the ankle. Progress has slowed down now as I try to decide how long I want them to be. I wish I had another set of dpns so I could begin knitting the other one. Although that brings up a second dilemma, do I knit an identical sock (bearing in mind I like to wear odd socks) or do I knit one with the stripes reversed or do I knit with either the pink or the purple and the green yarn I bought at the same time.  Too many choices!!!!

And so it begins….

March 3, 2007

I’ve decided to start a blog. I have no idea if anyone will want to read it or if I’ll even like using WordPress at all.  So far I’m completely flummoxed and have just about managed to put a theme on it but I’d rather have something different so it may change quite a lot in the first few weeks.

I knit and do crafty things and enjoy reading other people’s blogs about their projects so that’s mostly what I will write about.  I live in the south west of England and work in an office doing a very mundane job (at the moment!) so my creativity is coming out in my craftiness at the moment.  I’ll try and get some pics up soon and edit my profile.

There’s going to be a lunar eclipse tonight so I’m going to look at it now!
